The Urban League’s Early Head Start Program serves infants, toddlers and pregnant women in center based care embracing the entire family unit through child care.  The Urban League’s Early Head Start Program (ULEHS) is a 3-star quality rated program that promotes complete mind and body development of infants and toddlers.  ULEHS also offers pre/postnatal education and support services to pregnant women.

Enroll in Early Head Start

Recruitment in ULEHS is on-going.  There are no deadlines.  To be considered for enrollment, you must complete and submit the Recruitment Form along with the documents listed below.  To increase your chances of enrollment submit your recruitment packet to all the early head start centers that interest you. Child’s Birth Certificate Current Child’s Immunization Record Family Income Verification (any that apply to you) check stubs (last 4) recent W-2 form award letter(s) for Social Security, Public Assistance, and/or Grants/Financial Aid etc food stamp printout Social Security Card(s) for child(ren) enrolling in the program Picture Identification of parent(s)/guardian(s) Type of Medical Insurance WIC Voucher Proof of Guardianship (if you are not the parent)

ULEHS encourages a love of learning in our children.  Each ULEHS child receives education, health and social services preparing them for socialization, problem solving, and other life experiences increasing self-confidence.  ULEHS works to provide our children and families early education and recreation opportunity, so as a family they continue their journey toward self-sufficiency.

Parent & Family Engagement

Parent and family involvement is a cornerstone of ULEHS. Involving caregivers in their child education early makes for:

• Improved parenting skills
• Vested caregivers in being the first and primary teachers for their children
• Family progress toward self-sufficiency
• Knowledgeable caregivers that realize their potential and reach goals

As a caregiver/parent of a ULEHS student your input is important to the success of the program. ULEHS Caregivers/Parents:

• Volunteer in the classroom
• Participate in activities and workshops that you plan
• Participate as decision makers on the Parent Committee or Policy Council

Family Partnership Agreement

To move our families toward success and self-sufficiency ULEHS uses the Family Partnership Agreement. A dual effort between parents and ULEHS, family partnership agreements try to help parents overcome barriers like poverty, a lack of education, drug addiction and poor health. Developing a Family Partnership Agreement will improve family communication skills, establish family goals and create access to community and emergency resources. Parents who put in the most effort enjoy the greatest benefits.
